Do not befriend a woman whose affair is excessive
A sister narrates:
"I once sat with her (that woman), and the entire time she kept talking only about clothes, gold (jewelry), furniture, outings (travels) and shopping. So much so that sitting with her I started to feel as if I have nothing in this world, while she has everything in the world.
And one day I met her again, then she started telling me stories of shopping lists for cleaning supplies, and changing the curtains of her house etc...
After a little thought, I had a great revelation; I came to know that in her company I feel a sense of deprivation and deficiency (within myself), while without her I feel content and fulfilled with this world. So I decided to distance myself from her.
Meanwhile, one Friday I was reciting Surah Al-Kahf, then my eyes fell on this saying of Allah Almighty:
{And obey not one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his own desire and whose affair is excessive}
(Translation: And do not obey the one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is excessive.)
I quickly went to the Tafsir to see what 'furutan' means.
Then it was known that (furutan) is that person who has wasted his religious affair, has been lazy in it, and has become so engrossed in his world that his example becomes like that necklace which breaks and its pearls scatter.
Then I became firmly convinced that my decision (to distance myself from her) was absolutely correct.
*Think about your friends from now!*
Believe that you will definitely take some influence from them:
- If you keep the company of those who memorize the Holy Quran, you will memorize the Quran like them.
- If you keep the company of people of knowledge, you will become like them.
- If you keep company with creative people, you will become creative like them.
- If you keep the company of people who bring goodness and benefit, you will become like them.
If you ever have to sit, then sit with a pious woman, and if you have to take advice, then take advice from a wise person. And beware! Never listen to the one who has made a fool of herself and who has not known any value of her Hereafter.
For the sake of Allah, O beloved people, this is the advice:
Befriend a woman whose affair is not 'furutan' (heedless of religion and excessive), otherwise you will also become like her.
